“Talpa Rain”

Our featured artist Patrick Carver,is being honored post humorously. He was born in Denver, CO, and moved with his family to Pueblo when he was quite young. Carver spent his younger days hanging out with friends at Coors, where Joe and Johnny Greco slung beers their way, while working for the railroad. His sense of adventure and connection to mother nature spurred him to ride horses, take in wandering dogs, and try new endeavors, often labeled as a hippie and environmentalist. He operated the Beulah Inn in the 70’s with his cousin “Brownie”, a racecar driver and pool guy to the rich and famous later in life. Carver’s spirit and connection to the earth led him to explore some of the most beautiful places. Through various jobs, he was able to travel and start appreciating what Mother Nature bestows upon us naturally. In Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, he wandered the lake with awe and amazement of what each day could bring, his dog “Honey” exploring beside him. He brought that same attention and love for the earth back to Pueblo when he moved home to be with his aging parents. With his mom’s dog “Mango” always close by, Carver went to yoga classes with his mom, and walked with her along Fountain Creek, adopting this new chapter in life and with it, a new dog.  Carver explored Owl Canyon and the bluffs to the south of the reservoir, always with a dog in tow, and camera in hand.  Every decade or so, brought another puppy into his life, filled with stories and friendship that only other dog lovers come to know.  With each canyon that has been wandered, Patrick has captured the beauty of the bluffs–creeks–sunrises–moonsets–flowers–etc. through his lens. We share what Mother Nature continues to gift us each day, in this small collection of Patrick’s explorations of the canyons, with “Bo” the dog, alongside.

Patrick is still with us in those canyons every day and he would want us to honor his legacy, by being stewards of the environment and protecting Mother Earth to our very end.
